Fresh New Korean BBQ Concept Set to Sizzle Late September

Coming soon to South End is one of the latest trends in the fresh casual restaurant market! Bulgogi Box is a unique hybrid-service concept restaurant serving authentic Korean style BBQ in a friendly atmosphere. The bold flavors and healthy, quality ingredients are perfect for guests seeking out authentic recipes, while the counter service at lunch caters to those with busy schedules and a desire for value.

The essence of the Bulgogi Box experience will feature traditional Korean ‘Bulgogi’, which is perfectly marinated beef in a sweet and savory BBQ sauce or pork in a spicy red sauce then fire-seared or pan-seared to order and piled high over sticky rice! Another traditional ‘Bibim’, which featuring Bulgogi with healthy vegetable toppings to be All dinner entrees are served with the guest’s choice of side from a gorgeous list of expected and not-so-expected veggies, soup, rice and condiments traditionally associated with a Korean BBQ.

Guests are also invited to relax at the bar and unwind while sampling a combination of innovative craft cocktails and classic mixed drinks that showcase the absolute freshest ingredients and choice top-notch liquors. Local breweries will also be represented and rotated on tap and by the bottle with happy hour features to keep thirsty guests coming back for more.

The highest quality ingredients will be sourced to prepare all items on-site with authentic recipes from Korean-born lifelong cook with over 30 years of experience, Myunghye Hwang and her niece Jin Lee Mengert.

Hwang was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea, and her Korean culinary skill was developed in traditional family methods until she began her career in 2002 as an assistant chef at the Japanese restaurant Hayan House in Seoul. She achieved Craftsman Cook status in Korean cuisine in 2004 and in 2006 became a chef at Bonaire Café in Seoul. She moved to the U.S. in 2012 to accept a position in Raleigh NC, then moved to Charlotte, NC and became a part of Jin’s life long dream.

Jin Lee Mengert is the owner/operator of Bulgogi Box Co. She first came to the U.S. in 1992 as an exchange student at UC Berkeley. Inspired by American culture, she applied for a 2nd BA degree in accounting with UNC Charlotte while finishing her BA degree in business administration from Hong-Ik University in Seoul, South Korea. She became a CPA and worked in public accounting before she moved to the industry as a tax manager for a Fortune 500 company in Charlotte, NC. Growing up in a family who believes “Food is Love”, she resigned from her position in April 2015 to fulfill her lifelong dream of opening her first Korean restaurant in Charlotte, NC. Jin collaborated with Chef Pat Webber of Mise en Place past two years to perfect the concept and the recipes of Bulgogi Box.

Bulgogi Box is located at 1750 Camden Dr. Suite 104, Charlotte, NC in the heart of South End. Hours of Operation are Tuesday -Saturday 11am to 10pm (closed between 3pm-5pm) and Sunday 12pm – 4pm.
